Abstract

The understanding and mastery of the four basic operations of mathematics are essential for the mathematical literacy of the student and form the basis of everything that guides this science. Therefore, a systematic analysis was carried out to understand how the approach is given and which methods of teaching the content and algorithm of the subtraction are presented in three textbooks of the 4º year of elementary education, approved by the PNLD of 2019. In which there was a satisfactory approach to the subtraction content in two of the three books analyzed, however, the approach specifically of the reserved subtractions was not considered satisfactory, as few alternatives are presented throughout the units so that the student can understand and fix the learning of the algorithm. Therefore, a didactic proposal has been developed that consists of presenting an alternative algorithm for performing subtractions and filling in conceptual gaps of subtractive operations, as well as causing reflections on teacher pedagogical practices.
